The second generation of the cult coupe, the Audi TT, to be launched in September 2006, is a force to be reckoned with and is already being eagerly awaited by the motoring press. And the current TT still looks as fresh as it did when it was launched, according to "Auto Bild". The new TT, which is to be available at dealers in spring 2007, will therefore inherit many details from the original, for instance the striking radiator grille and the line of the silhouette. These details provide the finishing touches to designer Freeman Thomas' outstanding initial design. New features include the extended wheelbase which will ensure plenty of space for four passengers. The luggage compartment of the new TT will also be more generously dimensioned. As for the interior, the overall look is as puristic as ever, and the technology is first-class. A larger monitor in the centre console provides for entertainment and information; the MMI operating system is controlled centrally. The multifunction steering wheel is fitted, as on the predecessor, with shift paddles. The coupe is powered by four- or six-cylinder supercharged engines with direct injection which generate up to 240 bhp. The advanced technology of the quattro four-wheel drive system, which is transferring power onto the road via a rear-biased torque split on an ever-increasing number of models, ensures that this car remains a step ahead. The new BMW Z4, which will be available to customers in July 2006, will continue to provide competition for the dynamic sports car from Ingolstadt.
