First FIA GT Championship Win For DBR9

Race report, FIA GT Round 11, Bahrain, Friday, November 25, 2005:
Christophe Bouchut and Antonio Garcia won the final round of the 2005 FIA GT Championship in Bahrain today, the pair driving their Aston Martin DBR9 to a 26-second victory after three hours of racing. It was the first international victory for the Russian Age Racing team, and the second time that the Cirtek-run team has won this year - the first coming with the DBR9 in Conversbank colours, at the Le Mans Endurance Series race at the Nurburgring in September.
The FIA GT Championship win seems to have been a long time coming. Though this is the first season of the Russian Age Racing team, and the first time that Cirtek has run in the top class of the championship, the team was nevertheless unlucky not to have won twice before.
Bouchut qualified for his second pole position of the season at Zhuhai, China, but was caught out by a patch of oil in the first hour, and in Dubai, he was leading with little more than 20 minutes to go when a transmission problem forced retirement at the side of the road.
Team manager Rob Schirle was delighted to have rounded off the season with victory. "Cirtek are proud to have achieved so much this year, with 17 races over two continents and two championships," said Schirle. "It has been hard work for all the team. The win at the Nurburgring and the win in Bahrain was a high, but also I would like to say a big thank you to Nikolay Fomenko for showing faith in me and in my team.
"To be part of Aston Martin's return to GT racing and to have taken the first win for a privateer in both the LMES and the FIA is something I feel very proud to have achieved. This is a great start to Cirtek's 2006 programme and we will soon be announcing our plans for both the Le Mans Series and the FIA GT Championship."
